Volunteer's Corner
Volunteer Profile: Ann M. Boyle

I was born in Philadelphia and married Ed Boyle there. We settled in Maine where we reared our three children: Nancy Shaw of Santa Maria; Kevin of St. Louis, and Allen of Chatsworth. During my working years, I held various clerical and administrative positions in government including the Department of the Navy and the Internal Revenue Service. Ed and I moved to San Diego and with no prior experience in Natural History, I served as a docent at the Natural History Museum in Balboa Park for twenty years and also as a docent at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. I left the San Diego Museum as a Docent Emeritus in June of 2001, after Ed passed away, and moved to Santa Maria. I learned about the Natural History Museum in Santa Maria at the Santa Barbara County Fair and applied to become a volunteer.

Volunteers do not need to have prior experience in natural history-only a desire to learn. Very soon new volunteers will be sharing their knowlege of our planet with children and adults in our community. One day, Santa Maria will have a very large collection and even more visitors. The legacy of early volunteers will be that we helped get it all started!

Ann is extremely vital to our school visit program and would love to help train anyone interested in joining us as a volunteer.
